High school softball: Friday’s 4A Super Regionals Game 2 & 3 recaps

Sky View 13, Tooele 5

Sky View, ranked fourth, stayed alive in the 4A Super Regionals with a commanding 13-5 victory over No. 13 Tooele, forcing a decisive third game later today. Despite an early 3-0 lead for the Bobcats in the first inning, Tooele tied it up in the second with three runs of its own. However, Sky View surged ahead in the fifth inning with an impressive eight-run burst to secure the win. Eliza Birman excelled offensively, driving in five runs for the Bobcats, while Avaree Haramoto added two RBIs.

Crimson Cliffs 7, Deseret Peak 2

Crimson Cliffs, ranked No. 6, won 7-2 against No. 11 Deseret Peak, forcing a decisive Game 3 in the 4A Super Regionals best-of-3 series. Maylee Dunkley powered the Mustangs with a home run, going 3 for 4 and driving in four runs. Crimson Cliffs scored four runs in the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie. Pitcher Jordyn Cluff contributed with six strikeouts over the course of the game.

Desert Hills 13, Stansbury 3

Top-ranked Desert Hills defeated No. 17 Stansbury 13-3 in Game 2 of the 4A Super Regionals to sweep the series 2-0 and advance to next week’s 4A Bracket Play at Valley Complex. A four-run fourth inning that included Sienna Foster’s three-run home run extended their lead. Riley Greene and Lulu West each contributed home runs, with West and Foster driving in two and three runs respectively. Samantha Spencer secured the win with five strikeouts. Stansbury managed three late runs in the fourth inning but could not close the gap.

Orem 16, Mountain Crest 9

The No. 9 Orem Tigers overpowered No. 8 Mountain Crest Mustangs, winning 16-9 in Game 2 of the 4A Super Regionals best-of-3 series, thereby clinching the series 2-0 and advancing to next week’s 4A Bracket Play at Valley Complex. The Tigers surged with a seven-run seventh inning, led by Jaileigh DeMaria who went 2 for 4 at the plate, driving in four runs with two home runs. Camber Hancock and Avery Allen also contributed home runs, combining for four RBIs. Meanwhile, Mountain Crest’s Sage Walker went 2 for 3 with a home run in a six-run third inning. Orem tallied 17 hits and overcame its early errors behind Kiley Hoshnic’s four strikeouts and defensive efforts.

Cedar City 5, Dixie 0

No. 10 Cedar rebounded in Game 2 of a 4A Super Regionals best-of-3 series to beat No. 7 Dixie 5-0, ensuring a decisive third game later today. Karli Adams led Cedar’s pitching effort with 11 strikeouts, as Kenzie Hawkins and Sloane Feilding each contributed an RBI. Cedar capitalized on Dixie’s four errors, despite both teams having a relatively low number of hits.

Deseret Peak 6, Crimson Cliffs 1

Oakland Hinckley went 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs to lead Deseret Peak to a 6-1 victory over No. 6 Crimson Cliffs in a decisive Game 3 of the 4A Super Regionals best-of-3 series. Crimson Cliffs initially took a lead with a first-inning run, but Deseret Peak answered with runs in the second, third, and notably in the late innings, scoring in the sixth and seventh. Deseret Peak’s win secures its advancement in the playoffs.

Sky View 11, Tooele 9

Brylee Andrus powered No. 4 Sky View to an 11-9 victory over No. 13 Tooele in Game 3 of their 4A Super Regionals best-of-3 series, going 2 for 3 with two home runs and five RBIs. Sky View fell behind early, trailing 3-2 after the first inning, but surged ahead with a five-run rally over the second and third innings. Tooele managed another three runs in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to extend their postseason run.

Dixie 10, Cedar City 1

No. 7 Dixie secured its place in the 4A Super Regionals with a decisive 10-1 victory over No. 10 Cedar. The Flyers set the tone early with 2 runs in the first inning and sealed the win with a 6-run burst in the sixth. Morgan Staheli’s performance stood out, delivering a 3-run homer, while Peyton Hatch struck out three for the Flyers.

Mountain Crest 7, Orem 4

No. 8 Mountain Crest rallied in Game 3 of the 4A Super Regionals, securing a 7-4 win against No. 9 Orem to advance. The Mustangs scored three runs in the third inning, followed by another three in the fourth, pulling ahead after a scoreless start. Abby Nelson led the charge by going deep with a home run, contributing four RBIs, while Hadlee Christensen notched seven strikeouts for Mountain Crest. Despite Orem’s late two-run innings, they fell short of overtaking the Mustangs.
