Blue Bell Park is the site of another SEC showdown this weekend as Texas A&M faces Mississippi State with massive postseason implications on the line.
In his first season as head coach of the Bulldogs, Brian O'Connor has his club contending for an opportunity to host a regional at Dudy Noble Field. D1 Baseball's latest Field of 64 has Mississippi State (No. 12) hosting the Starkville Regional against Oklahoma State, NC State and Southeastern Louisiana, matched up in the bracket against the Raleigh Regional.
Meanwhile, the Aggies should be a lock to host a regional, but they still have an opportunity to secure a national seed with an impressive performance against the Bulldogs. Projections have Texas A&M hosting Cincinnati, UTSA and Binghamton in the Bryan-College Station Regional.
The Bulldogs enter the weekend with a 35-17 overall record and a 15-12 mark in SEC play, with eight ranked wins on their résumé. The second-best hitting team in the SEC will challenge a limited Aggie bullpen, with multiple injuries creating holes in the pitching staff.
Here are the top storylines to follow for Texas A&M's regular-season finale against Mississippi State at Olsen Field:
Texas A&M:
The Aggies are battling injuries as they continue to search for a definitive starting rotation entering the final SEC series of the regular season. Michael Earley announced Aiden Sims will be absent on the mound due to tightness, leaving questions for Friday's and Saturday's starting pitchers.
Left-hander Ethan Darden will start Game 1 after allowing two hits, two walks and two earned runs in two innings in the series opener against Ole Miss last weekend. The Clemson transfer replaced Shane Sdao, who had been Texas A&M's go-to Friday starter. With Sims out, Sdao could start on Friday or Sunday, depending on how Earley and pitching coach Jason Kelly want to manage things against a dangerous Mississippi State lineup.
Mississippi State:
The Bulldogs' pitching staff began SEC play on fire, boasting one of the top team ERAs and total strikeouts in the conference. Ryan McPherson's injury took a toll on the starting rotation, but State has bounced back nicely with some solid outings out of Tomas Valincius, who is third in the league with a 2.52 ERA this season.
Texas A&M is looking to secure a national seed, while Mississippi State aims to host a regional at Dudy Noble Field.
Mississippi State has a 15-12 record in SEC play and a 35-17 overall record.
Brian O'Connor is in his first season as head coach of the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Texas A&M:
One aspect that has Earley in the conversation for SEC Coach of the Year is Texas A&M's improvement at the plate this season. The Aggies are third in the conference with a .304 batting average and second with 108 home runs. In his two campaigns at the helm, Earley's team ranks No. 2 and No. 3 in program history for most home runs in a single season. Since he arrived in College Station, Texas A&M has recorded 509 total home runs, an average of 101.8 per season.
The Aggies' home run duo of Caden Sorrell and Gavin Grahovac has played a major role in that success, combining for 39 homers in 2026.
Mississippi State:
The Bulldogs have established themselves as one of the most explosive lineups in college baseball. Mississippi State ranks second in the SEC with a .313 team batting average and 414 RBIs. Consistency from hitters like Bryce Chance and Ace Reese has provided O'Connor's club with a significant advantage over conference opponents.
Chance ranks third in the conference with a .371 batting average and is second behind Reese with 18 doubles in 2026. Reese has 18 home runs with a .704 slugging percentage and 1.134 OPS.

Texas A&M:
Last weekend's series against the Rebels was a nightmare for the Aggies in terms of lineup health. Third baseman Nico Partida remained out due to an injury suffered against Auburn, shortstop Boston Kellner suffered a broken orbital socket in Friday's game, and second baseman Chris Hacopian was used as the designated hitter again as he works back to full health.
According to Earley during this week's media availability, Kellner is recovering well and could be inserted at some point this weekend. Partida is day-to-day as he aims to return for postseason play, but his absence would be significant against the Bulldogs.
Mississippi State:
State enters the matchup largely healthy outside of McPherson, who sustained an ankle injury against Auburn. He had previously been sidelined with a forearm strain suffered in the Bulldogs' win over Vanderbilt on March 20.
Mississippi State will aim to keep its pitching staff healthy with a key piece still missing, but Valincius and Stone provide stability in the rotation for now.
