Highlights of new Bears tight end Sam Roush
The Chicago Bears shocked everyone with their third pick of the 2026 NFL Draft, selecting Stanford tight end Sam Roush.
This was also their second pick of the second round, after trading back from 60 to 69. They gained pick 144 for moving back nine spots. The first pick was a safety, which was a pretty big need for Chicago. The second pick was a center, which became a moderate need when Drew Dallman retired. There is no explaining this third pick, however.
With Colston Loveland, their first-round pick in 2025, and Cole Kmet already in the mix, it is curious to see the Bears selecting another tight end, although his blocking ability needs no introduction. Chicago probably felt that he was the best player available on their board, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it wasn't much of a need.
