The Philadelphia Eagles selected New Mexico outside linebacker Keyshawn James-Newby in Round 7 of the 2026 NFL Draft with the No. 252 overall pick (via a trade with the Los Angeles Rams). The talented edge rusher was projected as an undrafted free agent; instead, he'll join the Eagles as a seventh-round pick.
"He can rush. I think that when you turn on the tape and you see him in must-pass situations, is he able to get off the ball. He can bend. He's got production as a rusher. Obviously, you're looking for traits late in the draft, and that was one of the reasons we wanted to get a bunch of picks there at the end because we had a bunch of guys that we wanted to take. I mean, even at the end, we were sitting there going, can we try to get a couple more picks because there were some guys that we wanted to get. He's going to have to show it here, but that's why we liked him."
His path to Division I football included Junior College and NAIA ranks before earning extra eligibility and continuing his career first at Montana Tech, then Idaho, and finally at New Mexico. James-Newby had nine sacks last year and 10.5 the season before. He has started 46 games in his college career and registered 23.5 sacks.
