Himad Abdelli (26) will not play for Olympique de Marseille again this season, following an altercation with manager Habib Beye, as per a report from RMC Sport.
Abdelli joined OM from SCO Angers back in January for a nominal fee of just under €3m. The Algerian arrived on a cut-price deal due to his contract with Le SCOexpiring at the end of the campaign. Since arriving at the Vélodrome, he has struggled, however. In nine matches, he has yet to register a goal contribution.
He has also come in for some criticism from his manager, Beye. His behaviour and performances have been judged to be disappointing. After the draw against OGC Nice, words were exchanged between Abdelli and Beye, with the latter also seeming to target the Algeria international in his post-match press duties.
As a result, he wasn’t even in the matchday squad, and RMC Sportunderstands that he will now not play again for Marseille until the end of the season. It remains to be seen whether his long-term future at the club is under threat. Beye’s is, in any case. Outside of the UEFA Champions League qualification place, failure to qualify for the competition will likely spell an end to his short reign.
