The biggest question facing every WNBA team in training camp
WNBA training camps open with key questions for each team.
Hoeneß praised his team's convincing 4-0 victory over HSV, highlighting their strong start and solid defense. Despite the scoreline, he felt they could have added more goals.
Hoeneß reflects on “convincing” performance against HSV
Die Schwaben returned to winning ways in style, as goals from Angelo Stiller, Chris Führich, Maximilian Mittelstädt and Bilal El Khannouss sealed a comprehensive 4-0 triumph.
Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß was delighted with his side’s display:
“We put on a really good performance. We managed to apply pressure right from the start and defended resolutely and clearly for long stretches. It's curious that we won 4-0 and yet still have the feeling that we could have scored one or two more goals. That pretty much sums up what a convincing performance it was.”
Opening goalscorer Stiller also highlighted the team’s sharp start:
“It was important that we took the lead more or less with our first chance. We had the runs in behind the defense that the coach demanded, as well as good coverage in the box. Given the number of chances, we could have scored more goals, but we're satisfied with four. We were very active, it was fun to be out on the pitch. We're in third place with five games to go – and we want to keep this run going.”
Finally, Maximilian Mittelstädt shared his thoughts:
“It was a very good game from us. We played with great focus from the start – and were aggressive in every situation. The game plan worked perfectly. We were also compact defensively and repeatedly won the ball back well. If we can reproach ourselves for anything, it's only the fact that we didn't score more goals. My dad told me this morning to take a shot – and that's exactly what worked, that was great advice from him.”
VfB Stuttgart now have a full week on the training ground before a major test awaits: a trip to the Allianz Arena on Sunday, April 19, where they will face FC Bayern Munich.
The final score was 4-0 in favor of Hoeneß's team.
Goals were scored by Angelo Stiller, Chris Führich, Maximilian Mittelstädt, and Bilal El Khannouss.
Hoeneß described the performance as convincing, noting their strong start and solid defense throughout the match.
