Following their wild brawl at UFC 327, both Josh Hokit and Curtis Blaydes were sent to the hospital. Now weāre learning just how banged up they are after winging haymakers at each other for the majority of their fight.
Hokit walked away from Miami with a decision win over Blaydes, two performance bonuses totaling $200,000, and a fight booking against Derrick Lewis at the UFC White House event in June. Thatās two months away, and we did wonder whether the UFC had jumped the gun on announcing the fight before doctors even assessed the damage Hokit just took.
According to āThe Incredible Hok,ā heās ready to go.
āJust got back from the hospital,ā he wrote on social media. āNo broken bones ācuz Iām made of steel⦠Yāall are welcome⦠200k!ā
Curtis Blaydes was not as lucky.
According to his management (via Mike Bohn),āRazorā suffered a fractured orbital bone and fractured nose in the drag out war with Hokit, which tells you just how much grit Blaydes showed to keep engaging as he did. It wasnāt enough to earn him the win, which went to Hokit via 29-28Ć3 scorecards.
Thatās likely to put Blaydes on the shelf for a while, which is disappointing given how often heās been injured. Curtis tore his MCL against Rizvan Kuniev last June, leaving him unable to compete for nearly a year. Depending on how serious his orbital fracture is, he could be out for several months to a year.
As for Josh Holk, though, heās free and clear to fight Derrick Lewis on the UFC White House card. After facing the quiet-mannered Blaydes, it should be interesting to see what kind of interplay Hokit and Lewis have, especially given the elevated platform the UFC White House card brings.
