May 6 (UPI) -- Carlos Correa is expected to undergo ankle surgery and miss the remainder of the 2026 MLB season, the Houston Astros shortstop told reporters Wednesday.
Correa was 0 for 4 in the Astros' 8-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday in Houston. He said he sustained the tendon injury while taking swings in the batting cage Tuesday before the Astros' 2-1 win over the Dodgers at Daikin Park.
"It's tough," said Correa, who missed Tuesday's game. "Not what I was expecting. Now it's time to deal with it, face it head-on and focus on the rehab."
Correa told reporters that he felt and heard a "pop" from the ankle while he was taking a swing in the batting cage. He then fell to the ground and couldn't put weight on his left foot. He said he expects to have surgery "at some point this week."
Correa estimated that he will be out for at least dix to eight months.
