According to data released via ESPN Press Room, the latest draft continued that upward trend.
“ESPN today announced that the 2026 WNBA Draft delivered the second-most-watched WNBA Draft ever, averaging 1.50 million viewers, according to Nielsen Big Data + Panel.
“The audience marks a 20% increase over last year’s Draft. … The 2026 WNBA Draft peaked at 1.79 million viewers,” ESPN reported.
The figures underline sustained growth for the league, with both average and peak viewership showing strong engagement. It also reinforces how the draft has become a key event in the WNBA calendar.
Despite those gains, the 2026 numbers still sit below the benchmark set by the 2024 draft led by Caitlin Clark.
That event drew 2.45 million viewers and peaked at 3.09 million, making it the most-watched WNBA draft ever and the most-viewed WNBA broadcast on ESPN platforms.
The gap highlights the scale of Clark’s impact, with her entry into the league driving unprecedented attention.
While 2026 confirms continued momentum, the comparison shows that 2024 remains a standout moment in the league’s recent growth.
As the WNBA continues to build its audience, the challenge now is turning sustained growth into moments that can match the level of attention seen during Clark’s arrival.
