Brayan Bello still hasn't found his form to start the 2026 season.
The Boston Sox starting pitcher has followed a breakout 2025 with a 6.75 ERA through four turns. Bello endured another abbreviated outing in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers, allowing five hits, three walks and four runs over four innings.
Bello reacted to Saturday's shaky performance, via NESN, by expressing optimism for better days ahead.
“Obviously, I’m not happy, but I think I did the same thing last year,” Bello said through a translator. “I didn't have the best start, and I was able to turn it around, and I think that's something that I can do right now. I still have a lot of starts in front of me. I know I'm capable of turning things around and making the necessary adjustments to get back to the groove and the rhythm of going deep into the games. And I think that's just a matter of time."
Bello posted a 2.33 ERA in his first five starts of the 2025 season, but he allowed seven runs on May 18 and went five straight outings without completing the fifth inning.
The right-hander rebounded to work at least five frames in 20 of his ensuing 21 starts. Bello is looking to regain that stamina after pitching just 18 2/3 innings in four turns.

There are some positive signs from Bello's early returns, as he's missing more bats with a career-high 14.9 percent swinging-strike rate. But he's only notched 13 strikeouts despite those extra whiffs, and he's already issued 12 walks.
As Boston's rotation currently stands, Bello will make his next appearance to close a three-game series with the New York Yankees on Thursday.
