The Washington Commanders rank among the top five teams benefiting from rest days in the NFL's 2026 schedule, which features a record 110 games with rest disparities. Concerns about scheduling integrity and player welfare continue to grow as the league prioritizes television revenue and exposure.
The NFL's scheduling rest disparity has been a growing concern for those of us concerned about the decline in NFL scheduling integrity. The Washington Commanders are actually in the top five teams, provided an advantage of rest days in 2026, via Warren Sharp.
NFL teams will be playing every night of the week this season with the lone exception being there are no Tuesday night games scheduled. Thus, once again the rest disparity among NFL teams throughout the season is a rightful concern.
Are we making something out of nothing? Well, did you know the fact is, during the 2026 season, an NFL record 110 games will be played with a rest disparity? Did you get that? 110 days of games are scheduled, with one team at a physical disadvantage regarding rest days. Honest conclusion? The problem of equal rest and scheduling inequality in the NFL is truly getting worse.
Why don't NFL schedule makers care about scheduling equality as much as they once did? There is more television money in playing more days of the week, so the NFL does it. There is more exposure and money increasing the number of international games, so they do it, regardless of what it means for the players. For instance, the NFL no longer promises teams a bye week the week after they play international games.
So, a record number of games where teams don't have the same days of rest, 'no problem', says the NFL. "Why should our regular season be concerned with fairness? What's the big deal?"
Did you know the Los Angeles Chargers will have 24 fewer days of rest than their 2026 opponents this season? Isn't that shameful? Isn't it inexcusable? This is not MLB. This is not the Pro Bowlers Tour. This is the brutal sport of the NFL, and the Chargers will play 17 games but average nearly 1.5 fewer days of rest than their opponents. -24 is nine games less rest than the second-most disadvantaged team, the Eagles, at -15. Way to go, NFL. Way to schedule an unjustifiable, unreasonable regular season.
The Commanders' ranking indicates they are among the teams with the most advantageous rest days, highlighting disparities in player recovery opportunities.
A record 110 games are scheduled in the NFL 2026 season with a rest disparity, raising concerns about player welfare.
The NFL is focusing on maximizing television revenue and exposure, leading to less emphasis on scheduling equality and player rest.
