Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed showcases his leadership by prioritizing teammate support, even risking being late to a meeting. Known for his humor and humility, Reed has emerged as a key player and captain for the Aggies.
COLLEGE STATION â In a lot of ways, it's the physical traits that catch an onlooker's eye about Texas A&M star Marcel Reed.
The Aggies' quarterback is 6-foot-2, so taller than most people. He's lean, but athletic, with the muscle to take hits from linemen and the speed to outrun linebackers. He flashes a bright smile and warm nature, even to the reporters tracking his every play on the field.
All of that is important for a player who spent time as a Heisman Trophy candidate before leading his team to the College Football Playoff in 2025. But besides the 50-plus total touchdowns and more than 5,000 yards as an A&M quarterback, what fans may not see is his personality.
That was evident just a few weeks ago.

After being selected as a captain for the first time this spring, don't expect him to be a "rah-rah" guy. The 21-year-old prefers to lead with humor and humility.
"Most of the time when I go to introduce myself to somebody, I'll ask them like, 'What's your name? Cool, my name's Marcel, I'm the funniest guy here,'" Reed said about his approach.
Horton, a former Alabama wideout, was a top transfer portal target for many programs this offseason after catching 42 passes for 511 yards and eight touchdowns in 2025. So why did he choose to spend his final season of college football in Aggieland? In part, because of Reed. They were teammates at Battle Ground Academy, a 7-on-7 team in Nashville, Tenn., where they grew up. "Marcel's a genuine person," Horton said of his now teammate and longtime friend. "He has a great heart, and he'll do anything for anybody." At Kyle Field, they hope to pick up where they left off as kids. The 6-foot-4 receiver aims to help replace KC Concepcion, A&M's top receiver last year who was drafted by the Cleveland Browns. "We're going to put a lot of work in," Horton said. "I mean, this is the last lap for me, and I know Marcel. I know his dreams and aspirations: he wants to come out and be a great quarterback."
