After Boston's 5-4 win in the series opener against Detroit, Tracy said that Anthony will be sent back to Boston to meet with a hand specialist.
Anthony said that he will probably get an MRI to see what's going on.
"Just took a swing and it didn't feel good," Anthony said to reporters. "As I came back in and went under to continue to swing, it just was painful."
Roman Anthony's injury timeline is currently unclear, but he has returned to Boston for further evaluation after injuring his hand.
There is no specific timeline for Roman Anthony's return, as it will depend on the results of further evaluations.

It remains unclear on how long Anthony will be out, if any portion of time. He has flown back to Boston, and the team is still waiting on an official diagnosis before making any transactional moves, such as a stint on the injured list.
X-rays came back negative, signaling that there probably isn't a break.
Entering the offseason, the Red Sox had five outfielders who could start on a daily basis: Anthony, Jarren Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela, Masataka Yoshida, and Wilyer Abreu.
Now, that depth is a requirement rather than a luxury. Anthonyâs exit likely shifts Rafaela into a permanent role in center field, keeping Duran and Abreu in the corners.
While the Red Sox have the defensive coverage to weather the blow, replacing Anthonyâs .312 average and team-leading OPS is a far more difficult task. Tracy will now look to Yoshida and the veteran core to provide the power needed to keep the lineup afloat while the team awaits more news on their superstar's hand.
