Recruiting took a positive turn for Alex Golesh and the Auburn Tigers on Saturday when four-star running back Myson Johnson-Cook announced his pledge to Auburn's 2027 class.
Johnson-Cook is Auburn's second four-star commitment of the 2027 recruiting cycle. The first since Bessemer City High School defensive lineman Donivan Moore announced his commitment to Auburn on Feb. 12. Johnson-Cook is, however, the highest-rated commitment with a 93 rating from 247Sports as the No. 4 running back of the 2027 cycle, and the No. 3 player from Illinois.
How does the commitment of Johnson-Cook affect its 2027 recruiting rankings? The Tigers climb to No. 53 in 247Sports' 2027 rankings after a busy weekend on the trail across college football that saw several top recruits announce their commitments. In terms of the SEC, Auburn is No. 15, one spot above South Carolina. This is mostly due to the low number of commitments, three, that Auburn has compared to its conference rivals. The SEC's leader, Oklahoma, has 19 commitments so far for their 2027 class, and 11 others have at least five pledges. South Carolina has two commitments for 2027, while Vanderbilt and LSU have four each.
The good news is that May is around the corner, which will begin three months filled with camps and official visits, which could bode well for the Auburn Tigers and give them momentum to finish the cycle with an impressive signing day in December.
