The Sky started their post-Angel Reese campaign well, with a big 98-83 road win over the Portland Fire, the WNBA’s newest expansion club. All five starters scored in double digits for the Sky, led by Kamilla Cardoso, who scored 22 points with 14 rebounds, eight of which were offensive. Skylar Diggins lent her support, scoring 21 points to go with 11 rebounds, seven assists, one steal, and two blocks. As a team, the Sky lived at the free-throw line, making 26 of 34 attempts.

After a 91-80 road win over the Seattle Storm on opening night, the Valkyries came home and took care of business against the Phoenix Mercury, winning 95-79. The bench was fantastic, with Janelle Salaun scoring 21 points on 7-of-10 from the field, 4-of-5 from the 3-point line. Laeticia Amihere added 13 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three blocks, posting a team-best plus-33 rating in the 24 minutes she played.
