The New England Patriots are "likely" to acquire A.J. Brown in a trade after June 1, according to Adam Schefter on Monday, and the move would make a major impact on the salary cap.
Brown signed a three-year, $96 million extension with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024. The deal included $80 million in guaranteed money, including his $19.8 million signing bonus. According to Spotrac, if he is traded after June 1, the Patriots would be taking on $7 million on the salary cap.
The Eagles would be left with $16.3 million in dead cap for next season and $27.1 million in 2027. However, according to Spotrac, the actual cash the Patriots would be taking on would be a hefty amount.
Brown is going to be a big-time investment for the Patriots if they do trade for him. However, he would be joining an MVP-caliber quarterback and a great head coach. Not to mention, he has had great seasons playing for Mike Vrabel already.
The Patriots already spent big on Romeo Doubs this offseason, so adding Brown would give the Patriots two expensive targets for Drake Maye. However, it will be worth it if they win the Super Bowl.
