Drake Maye surprised many fans last season by putting together an MVP-caliber season, but now he enters Year 3 with loads of expectations.
Maye crushed all concerns of a regression or sophomore slump by finishing as the MVP runner-up last season. He helped lead the Patriots to their first Super Bowl since the Tom Brady era, and now goes into a very important season. Maye will be eligible for an extension after next season, and if he puts together another great year, he seems destined to become one of the highest-paid players in the league.
Obviously, like any great quarterback, Maye will need weapons around him. The Patriots have given him that by adding Romeo Doubs and, if what reports suggest is true, A.J. Brown. He will also have the team's second-best pass catcher from a season ago, Hunter Henry, back. Henry spoke on Maye on Tuesday.

"There's not enough good things I can say about Drake. Obviously, you see the talent on the field and everything he does - the arm talent, the escape-ability, the extended plays. I think the underrated thing that he has this year is going into Year 2 in the system. This system demands a lot of the quarterback position. It was kind of learning as we go throughout the whole (2025) season and you still saw the progress that he put out there. So to have a whole offseason to be in the same scheme and really build on what he did last year, I'm excited to see the jump."
Despite how good Maye was last season, Henry is expecting another jump from the young quarterback. It's not surprising that players in the building think Maye can be even better.
The Patriots have done everything they can to ensure he continues to grow. They are adding weapons and improving the offensive line. It would be a shock to see Maye struggle next season. The Patriots are entering the season as Super Bowl contenders, and all eyes will be on Maye.
