The University of Miami officially announced Tuesday that athletic director Dan Radakovich will retire, effective June 1.
Radakovich’s impending retirement, which was reported last week, comes after more than four years as the head of Miami’s athletics department.
“Serving the University of Miami again has been an absolute privilege,” Radakovich said in a news release. “This place means everything to me, and I’m proud of what our student-athletes, coaches and staff have accomplished together. The program is in a great place, and it’s the right time for fresh leadership to shape what comes next.”
A “national search” is underway for Radakovich’s successor, according to UM. Until a new athletic director is hired, deputy directors Brian Baptiste and Rachelle Paul will serve as co-leaders.
Michael Yormark, the president and CEO of ROC Nation Sports International and the Florida Panthers CEO from 2003-13, is one potential target for the program’s next athletic director, according to multiple reports. Yormark also is the brother of Brett Yormark, the Big 12 commissioner.
“Dan came to us with an outstanding track record,” UM President Joe Echevarria said in the press release. “I’ve enjoyed working with him as we’ve rebuilt and advanced Miami Athletics during an incredibly transformative time. Dan is a person of high character and has been an invaluable thought partner. I will continue to seek his advice and counsel going forward and wish him and his family all the best in what comes next.”
Miami hired Radakovich the day after the school introduced head football coach Mario Cristobal. During Radakovich’s tenure, the Hurricanes’ football team improved from 5-7 in 2022 to 10-2 in the 2025 regular season. Miami won three College Football Playoff games before losing to Indiana in the title game at Hard Rock Stadium.
The men’s basketball program also had unprecedented success during Radakovich’s tenure. The team reached the Sweet 16 under coach Jim Larrañaga in 2022. The following year, Miami reached that Final Four. The team finished under .500 the following two seasons. Radakovich hired former Duke assistant coach Jai Lucas to take over the program, and the Hurricanes finished 26-9 after returning to the NCAA Tournament this year.
Radakovich has overseen the Hurricanes’ athletic programs during the changing financial landscape in college sports. Name, Image and Likeness payments were allowed prior to Radakovich’s UM tenure, but the direct payments ushered in by the House vs. NCAA settlement began last year. Although neither NIL nor House payments are typically public knowledge, Miami has garnered a reputation for enticing high-priced players to Coral Gables.
Dan Radakovich's retirement will be effective June 1.
Deputy directors Brian Baptiste and Rachelle Paul will serve as co-leaders until a new athletic director is hired.
Michael Yormark, president and CEO of ROC Nation Sports International, is reported to be a potential candidate.

Miami has also improved its facilities in the past several years. The Carol Soffer Indoor Practice Facility is currently being expanded. The football team’s renovated locker room, the Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Locker Room, debuted in 2022. Miami has also built new training facilities for the basketball teams and baseball team.
UM matched its school record this past year with a 94% graduation rate. Last fall, Miami student-athletes set a school record for semester grade point average (3.40), and each program had at least a 3.0 GPA for the first time in Miami history, according to the release. The Hurricanes also won the NCAA Team Works Community Service Competition in 2022 and 2024.
