Apart from Jesse Derry, Joao Pedro was the only Chelsea player to emerge from today’s latest embarrassing defeat with any credit. He scored a late consolation goal, and also had the stones to speak to the Sky Sports cameras after the defeat.
He’s in a bad place, as are the rest of his team.
“From the beginning, we conceded too early. Against Nottingham Forest it is always difficult to change the game,” the striker answered when asked what had gone wrong for his team.
“We need to find a way not to do these mistakes every game. This is Premier League. If you concede too early, it is very difficult to come back.”
It was another goal conceded after just a couple of minutes, following on from a Brighton game two weeks ago where the Blues had a similar early surrender. Asked why the team were so incapable of starting games well, JP didn’t have an answer:

On Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher laid into the Chelsea project as a whole but said it was “good for football.”
Joao Pedro’s late goal rewarded the Chelsea fans who had stayed until the bitter end at Stamford Bridge.
