“I take all the football decisions” – Fabregas makes stunning admission that could scupper a fairytale Chelsea return

However, any potential move to Chelsea has been scuppered by the ex-midfielder’s desire for control.

Fabregas is a minority stakeholder at Como and handles all the club’s football decisions, but he wouldn’t get that unilateral authority at Chelsea.

The new Chelsea owners run a tight, hands-on ship that makes it difficult for managers to have any real authority.

That has already led to the departure of several managers, more recently Enzo Maresca, who repeatedly demanded more experienced players in the squad.

Chelsea’s structure doesn’t align with Fabregas’ expectations, so there’s a high chance the Blues will look elsewhere for a new permanent manager this summer.

“I take all the football decisions,” Fabregas said. “The sporting director, he’s day-to-day with me, and we see football the same way.

“The signings, we work with data, we have our scouting and stuff, but it needs to be something that I believe in. It needs to be a player that I’m convinced about.

“I’m so happy and lucky that we have a president that trusts me a lot and has given me the confidence to go and take all the football decisions. That, for me, is really important.”
