A man who had his leg amputated in 2018 after being diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer hopes to set the Guinness World Record for completing a marathon on one leg using crutches.
Peter Lloyd, who was diagnosed with a high-grade osteosarcoma in 2011, said he wanted to show others that you can achieve anything when you put your mind to it.
He is one of 42,000 participants taking part in the Manchester Marathon later.
"My purpose is to say there is a life - you can do this," said the 44-year-old father-of-three.
"Barriers are there for you to either go around them, go through them, go under them, or however you want to get past that barrier, you can do it."
Peter completed his first marathon in 2019 in a wheelchair in three hours and 18 minutes and 28 seconds.
But he decided he wanted to push himself further to raise funds for the Bone Cancer Research Trust.
"So the world record for completing a marathon with one leg and crutches is five hours, 37 minutes and 43 seconds," he said.
"So I thought, I'll do that."
He is hoping to secure a finish time of about five hours.

He is under no illusion about how difficult the challenge ahead will be but he is determined to have fun while doing it.
"I've got no hands to be able to stand," he said, speaking about how he would need to hold his crutches at all times.
"While you're running around you can open a packet and you can drink whereas I've got to stop to do anything.
"It's going to be a bit of a nightmare but a fun one."

James Goodall, from Manchester, will also be taking part in the marathon.
He will be running in memory of his father who passed away from cancer almost 25 years ago and his best friend of more than 30 years who died in November 2024 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.
He is running 26 marathons in their memory - one marathon for each year without them and will be raising funds for The Christie hospital.
"When you see them fight that battle, you realise what you are doing is insignificant," said James.
"However much pain and suffering I have been going through, you dig deep and think of them and they do push me without question."

Twenty-four-year-old midwife Molly Lloyd is set to take on the Manchester Marathon for a second time.
She said she started off with fun runs before working up to completing a marathon.
"When you watch someone give birth, you realise there are harder things to do than run a marathon," she said.
"When I hit the wall at mile 15, [I will think] if they can do that, I can do this."
She has been sharing her running journey on TikTok, inspiring others with every mile.

Ryan Walker, from Manchester, was given the opportunity to take part in the marathon just eight weeks ago.
In November 2025, he had to abandon his "10k a day for 100 days" attempt for Mind in memory of a friend who died six years ago after suffering an injury 31 days in.
So when he received an email while at work asking if he wanted to take part in the marathon, his reply was an immediate "yes".
"It will be tough to get through those last 10km or so but knowing we are going to do it for a good cause in the end will push me through," he said.
