Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has urged his players not to become complacent after victory over Espanyol sent the Catalans nine points clear with just seven games left to play.
The Catalans giants are now in an excellent position to retain their league title, but Flick says the job is not done yet and has urged his players to maintain the right attitude.
“It’s not over yet. Nine points is good, but we have to finish it off. We can’t go on with this attitude, I won’t accept it. Until it’s over, we have to play our best, and then, too. We’re going to keep going like this, I hope we can show it on Tuesday,” he said.
“We don’t think negatively, we think positively. We’ve had injuries, we’ve recovered… we have to manage it. What we’ve achieved so far is fantastic. Now we want to advance in the Champions League. We think we have the quality to win La Liga and the mentality to win, too. You can’t win anything with just quality. We can win La Liga, but it’s not over yet.”
Flick also spoke about his team’s next game against Atletico in the Champions League and believes a comeback is possible.
“We don’t need a miracle, we need to play a good game, and we can do that,” he added.
“Anything is possible. Atlético is fantastic, but we have a good team and we are capable of doing it.”
The winners of the quarter-final tie will go on to play Arsenal or Sporting in the semi-finals. The Gunners hold a 1-0 lead from the first leg in Portugal.
Hansi Flick stated that while being nine points clear is good, the team must maintain focus and cannot become complacent until the title is secured.
Barcelona has seven games left to play in La Liga following their victory over Espanyol.
