After reporting on Tuesday that Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix underwent a clean-up procedure for his surgically repaired ankle, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport appeared on the Pat McAfee Show to provide more details on Wednesday.
"So basically, a little bit of a â kind of a clean-out, just make sure it was healthy, get some stuff out of there," Rapoport told McAfee. "When he had it most recently examined, after the fractured ankle, they thought, 'All right, maybe there's going to be another surgery, just to make sure it's healing properly, to clean some stuff up.' So that's what happened. You're not going to see him very much at OTAs or minicamp."
That is a significant change from January, when Nix indicated the initial procedure would not impact his offseason. Broncos owner Greg Penner and general manager George Paton also said last month that Nix would be ready for OTAs, and coach Sean Payton said the QB would be ready for the offseason program.
Nix's spring participation now appears to be in doubt, but Rapoport believes Nix will be ready at or "very close" to training camp, which is expected to begin in late July. "I don't think it's anything that's going to derail his season or anywhere close," Rapoport concluded.
Denver's offseason program begins on Monday with veterans reporting for weight training and conditioning. Veterans won't begin on-field work until OTAs start in early June, but it sounds like Nix might not be ready to participate until later in the summer.
