With plenty of rain in Friday's forecast, the Texas baseball team is still holding out hope that it can play ball.
Texas is set to open a three-game series against Mississippi State at UFCU Disch-Falk Field at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, but Austin expects to receive a steady amount of rain throughout the day. Texas coach Jim Schlossnagle told reporters on Thursday that he was hopeful that, at worst, Friday's game might just be delayed since the weather is expected to taper off in the evening and the Longhorns play on a turf field.

Schlossnagle shared that coaches have some input as to when a game starts, but he mostly leaves the game-related decisions in the hands of UT's game operations team. The SEC will also have the final say as to if a game is cancelled or rescheduled.
"I've learned to kind of let a lot of that go," Schlossnagle said. "My saying is, if you don't like (weather), you should have been a basketball coach. Sweep the gym floor, play, (you get) cool clothes. I'm a big college basketball fan, so maybe I should have picked that if I don't like the weather."

Earlier on Thursday, Schlossnagle did tell a local radio station that he preferred a late start on Friday over a Saturday doubleheader. Schlossnagle said that doubleheaders were not "healthy" for teams.
The game is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
Austin is expecting steady rain throughout the day, but conditions may improve in the evening.
The final decision on cancellation or rescheduling lies with the SEC and UT's game operations team.

Schlossnagle also surmised that neither he nor Mississippi State coach Brian O'Connor would want to start a game that had a good chance of being delayed within a three-hour window. In addition to taxing his pitchers, Schlossnagle acknowledged that starting and stopping a game would be an inconvenience to others outside of his dugout.
"When I'm a part of the decision, I try to take into account everybody," Schlossnagle said. "(That includes) the people that have to come open the stadium and stand out in the rain, the ticket people, the ushers, all that stuff. I hate for people to have to come and be here when we might not even play. I try to be very sincere for that."
During the month of April, Texas had three of its games impacted by weather. A game at Texas A&M on April 11 was stopped for over 90 minutes because of a first-inning rain delay. The Longhorns' series finale at Texas A&M on April 12 and their home game against Air Force on April 21 were also cancelled by weather, and neither of those games will be made up.
