We wrote earlier this week about Chelsea being linked with West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes, and since then the Hammers’ relegation has got that much more likely after their heavy defeat by Brentford.
If they go down, the talented 21 year old is sure to leave, and the Blues look likely to be in the queue to sign him. The problem is, it seems there will be growing competition.
The Telegraph have today reported that the former Sporting star is now a top target for Man U, and unfortunately for Chelsea they look in. a much better position to sign him than we do.
They’re in the Champions League, and are in a better financial position than us as we wrestle with FFP, PSR, UEFA settlements and a lack of shirt sponsor or top tier European football.
Right now they’re a project that looks to have some forward momentum, and we look the opposite. Things can change – but we’re less hopeful than we would have been a year ago.
