Aliyah Boston of the Indiana Fever suffered a lower leg injury during a game against the Washington Mystics and did not return. Head coach Stephanie White has not provided further details on the injury.
Following the Indiana Fever's (1-2) 104-102 overtime loss to the Washington Mystics (2-1) on Friday night from Gainbridge Fieldhouse, head coach Stephanie White spoke on Aliyah Boston's lower leg injury after the star forward exited the game in the third quarter.
While it is still unknown when the injury occurred in the game, Boston checked out with 2:01 left in the third quarter and went back to the locker room. The Fever then announced during the fourth quarter that she would not return due to a lower leg injury. The former South Carolina Gamecock finished with nine points on 3-of-8 shooting in 20 minutes of play.
"I don't have any information," White said in her postgame media availability. "I haven't spoken to our medical staff yet."
Boston has been working back from a lower-leg injury she suffered in late February during her offseason play with Unrivaled. This forced her to miss the Unrivaled playoffs, the FIBA World Cup Qualifying Tournament in March, and then the Fever's first two preseason games in April.
Given the unknown severity of the injury, White did not indicate whether Boston's lower leg injury was a reaggravation of the lower leg injury that she suffered in the offseason.
Despite Caitlin Clark's heroic 32-point performance, which nearly single-handedly carried the team to victory, Boston's absence allowed the Mystics to exploit the lack of size underneath the basket, which ultimately was a deciding factor in the game.
With the Seattle Storm in town on Sunday, there will certainly be more details on Boston's status as Indiana practices today, and the medical staff will reveal their assessment of the injury.
Aliyah Boston exited the game with a lower leg injury and did not return after checking out with 2:01 left in the third quarter.
Aliyah Boston previously suffered a lower leg injury in late February while playing with Unrivaled, which caused her to miss several games.
Stephanie White stated that she did not have any information regarding Boston's injury and had not yet spoken to the medical staff.
