Indiana Fever share important injury update on rookie guard
TL;DR
Indiana Fever rookie guard Justine Pissott is out with a lower leg injury ahead of the preseason game against the Dallas Wings. Head coach Stephanie White expressed concern over her status as the team aims for a successful 2026 season.
Key points
- Justine Pissott is a second-round pick by the Indiana Fever.
- She scored eight points in her debut against the New York Liberty.
- Pissott is out with a lower leg injury before a preseason game.
The Indiana Fever have WNBA Championship aspirations heading into the 2026 season. They'll need their rookie class to play a big role if those aspirations are to become reality.
That's what makes head coach Stephanie White's latest injury update on second-round pick Justine Pissott so concerning.
Pissott, whom the Fever took with the 25th-overall pick in the draft, had a productive debut with Indiana against the New York Liberty last week. She had eight points in ten minutes on 2-4 shooting from the field. The former Vanderbilt Commodore is known for her three-point range, which she showed when she knocked down a pair of threes in her debut.
Before the Fever's latest preseason game against the Dallas Wings, Pissott was listed as out with a lower leg injury. A few hours later, White spoke with the media and provided an update on her young guard.
"I have no idea how long she'll be out," White said. "I know she was having some issues... she was going to see the doctor. I don't have exactly what it is... We'll make sure that she gets the attention and the time that she needs."
That isn't the update Fever fans were hoping to hear on Pissott, who looks set to miss some time with that leg injury. The Fever were ravaged by key injuries last season, and this is exactly the opposite of what the organization was hoping for.
The jury is still out over whether or not Pissott will be ready for Indiana's regular-season opener against the Wings next Saturday. If not, expect White and the coaching staff to lean even more heavily on first-round pick Raven Johnson to provide backup guard minutes.
