The Green Bay Blizzard rallied from down two scores multiple times on Saturday in a 57-52 road win over the Fishers Freight in a battle for first place in the Indoor Football League’s Eastern Conference.
The Blizzard (6-1 overall, 5-1 in conference) and Freight (5-2, 4-2) have been the class of the IFL early on this season and combined to produce one of the more entertaining games so far.
Green Bay QB Liam Thompson completed 17 of 22 passes for 209 yards and 3 TDs, while adding 3 more TDs on the ground. Fishers RB Josiah King led all players with a game-high 90 rushing yards on 15 attempts and found the end zone twice. Freight QB Felix Harper was 10-of-14 passing for 95 yards and 2 scores while also rushing for 2 TDs.
The Freight scored the first nine points of the game on a King two-yard run and a successful point-after attempt and deuce conversion from the leg of Andrew Mevis. But the Blizzard recovered to tie it at 16-16 on a rushing touchdown from QB Liam Thompson that came off of two play fakes.
Later on, it looked like Fishers would run away with it, particularly after Felix Harper’s second rushing touchdown of the day off a nifty pass fake similar to Thompson’s gave the Freight a 30-16 lead with 3:33 left in the second quarter.
The Blizzard outscored the Freight 34-22 in the second half to complete the comeback win After going down 46-43 midway through the fourth quarter, Thompson found Terrell Carey for a short TD to take the lead for good with 5:19 remaining.
Fishers had one last gasp with a Harper-to-CJ Windham TD with 39 seconds remaining, but could not get the ball back to try for a winning score.
The Blizzard return home for Week 9 to host the Quad City Steamwheelers (Friday, 8 p.m. ET, Overnght), while the Freight travel to Orlando for a date with the Pirates (Saturday, 5 p.m. ET, Yahoo Sports.
