Darnell Savage Jr. reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers in March. Almost two months later, a contract has yet to be signed, however, leaving some to wonder what exactly happened between the two sides. But NFL insider Mike DeFabo has now provided a positive update on the delayed signing.
According to DeFabo, a "medical issue" delayed the Steelers' acquisition of Savage, but a deal is expected to be signed once it's taken care of.

DeFabo also added that this was before the Steelers drafted Oklahoma safety Robert Spears-Jennings in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL Draft, potentially complicating the original intentions to sign Savage.
Savage, who was selected by the Packers with the 21st overall pick in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, spent his first five years in Green Bay before joining the Jacksonville Jaguars on a three-year deal worth $21.75 million. He was released by the Jaguars on September 16, 2025, and finished out the year with a few brief stints with the Washington Commanders and .
