The Milwaukee Bucks could be trading Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason, and the Boston Celtics have emerged as a landing spot for him.
Earlier this month, NBA insider Marc Stein called the Celtics to keep an eye on Antetokounmpo if he is made available by the Celtics. On Monday, NBA insider Shams Charania revealed that the Celtics are expected to ask Giannis if he wants to sign an extension, and he will turn it down, essentially forcing the Celtics to trade him with one year remaining on his current deal.
Charania also named the Celtics as a potential suitor and revealed that the Celtics attempted to acquire him before the trade deadline. It will take a massive package to get Antetokounmpo, and Charania also revealed what they are looking for.
"There is expected to be a robust market for Antetokounmpo's services, and ownership and front office officials expect to maintain their trade deadline asking price of a young blue-chip talent and/or a surplus of draft picks, sources said," Charania wrote on Monday.
The specific assets the Celtics would need to offer have not been detailed, but it is expected to involve significant player and draft capital.
Giannis may be traded if he declines a contract extension, leaving the Bucks with limited time to maximize his value.
The trade could occur this offseason, particularly if Giannis indicates he will not sign an extension with the Bucks.

Assuming the asking price for Antetokounmpo is a young talent and draft capital, the Celtics may need to get a third team involved to land Antetokounmpo. The Celtics would seemingly have to deal Jaylen Brown to get Antetokounmpo, but the Bucks may not want to take on his contract if they are rebuilding.
The Bucks are expected to resolve Antetokounmpo's future in the next six weeks, before the NBA Draft, according to Jimmy Haslam.
