The New England Patriots made it to the Super Bowl last season, but one analyst wants the team to change their offense.
New England needs to give quarterback Drake Maye more weapons and bolster the offense. The Patriots have been linked to a trade for star receiver A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles later this summer.
Even if the Patriots pull off a trade for Brown, Patriots insider Chad Graff of The Athletic wants the team to be aggressive in drafting a tight end in the 2026 NFL Draft and create an offense like the Rams, which sees multiple tight ends on the field on most plays.
“I’ve gone back and forth on how early the Patriots should draft a tight end for one main reason,” Graff wrote in an article published on Friday. “This is such a deep draft class at the position that you could probably get a player capable of becoming a starter early on Day 3. “The idea of building an offense around multiple-tight-end usage is in vogue. The Los Angeles Rams ranked first in the NFL in how frequently they used multiple tight ends (including a league-high 30.5 percent of snaps with three tight ends on the field), and they ranked second in expected points added per play.”
The Rams often used three tight ends, as it gives the defense a tough matchup, which Graff believes the Patriots should look to do.
Currently, New England’s starting tight end is Hunter Henry, while the team also signed Julian Hill this offseason, but he’s more of a run blocker. So, Graff believes the Patriots need to draft another receiving tight end to bolster the offense.
