Neville: Arsenal will need wheelbarrow to get over line in PL title race
Neville says Arsenal will need a wheelbarrow to win the PL title after edging past Newcastle.
The Cowboys selected defensive lineman LT Overton from Alabama in the fourth round of the 2026 draft, focusing on strengthening their defense. This marks their fourth pick aimed at bolstering the defensive line under Christian Parker's rebuild.
Instant Analysis: Pre-draft scouting reports on Cowboys' new defensive lineman LT Overton
The Cowboys went into the 2026 draft looking to upgrade their defense in a big way, and through their first five picks, they did just that, spending four of them on new recruits for Christian Parker's rebuild.
With their final selection of three in the fourth round, Dallas stayed with the theme, taking defensive lineman LT Overton out of Alabama.
The Cowboys have poured serious resources into the defensive line of late; Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams joined last season, and Otitio Ogbonnia was added over the offseason. And while Overton is listed as an edge rusher, he figures to be used more as an interior player.
The consensus on Overton is that he needs some development and lessons in consistency. The veteran leaders along the Cowboys' D-line can certainly help guide the 21-year-old in that regard.
A sampling of Overton's pre-draft scouting reports sheds more light on what the Cowboys are getting.
Overton isn’t yet the sum of his parts and hasn’t turned the flashes into consistency (and there is no guarantee he ever will), but the potential is enticing from a player who’s still very young. His ability to fit different schemes and alignments only bolsters his draft projection.
Evaluators are split on whether Overton fits in the “versatile” bucket or the “tweener” pile — there is a case to be made on each side. He is a gap-sound, unselfish run defender and uses his long arms to get extension into contact and control blocks. He has force behind his hands and a strong base to set firm edges, although he needs to be more efficient ridding himself of contact. He moves well for his size and has inside/outside rush upside, but his technique and overall plan aren’t there yet.
LT Overton is a defensive lineman from Alabama, primarily listed as an edge rusher but expected to play more as an interior player for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys focused on upgrading their defense, using four of their first five picks on new recruits to support Christian Parker's rebuilding efforts.
Before drafting LT Overton, the Cowboys added Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams last season, along with Otitio Ogbonnia over the offseason.
The Cowboys' investment in their defensive line indicates a strong commitment to improving their defense, which is crucial for their success in upcoming seasons.

Overton is a slow-twitch end with impressive power and a consistently rugged demeanor. He has long arms and plays with the anchor/leverage that helps him secure his gap. However, he rarely gains early positional advantages and isn’t going to be a gap-shooter. He lacks range in pursuit and won’t threaten tackles to the corner with his get-off as an edge rusher. Overton’s play strength and leverage create power on the edge, but power won’t trump production. Adding mass and moving inside to 3-technique could be in his best interest.
Overton profiles as a day two selection who earns a rotational role immediately and develops into a starter with time. His best fit is in a multiple front that kicks him inside on passing downs where his power and length create problems for guards. The positional versatility is real: 1,529 career snaps across multiple alignments, and that flexibility matters when coordinators want to create confusion with pre-snap movement. Teams running attacking 3-4 schemes can use him as a base end who threatens from different spots along the line. The 2025 regression needs context. Teams started game-planning for him, chipping more frequently, and he had not developed the counter moves to adjust. That is fixable with NFL coaching. When his hands fire correctly and he maintains pad level, he wins against quality tackles. The physical tools are there: bend for his size, functional power that translates to bull rush effectiveness, and a motor that does not quit. The floor is a rotational piece who contributes 400 to 500 snaps and provides complementary pass rush value. The ceiling is higher than the overall ranking suggests if a defensive line coach can clean up the technical issues and develop his hand counters. The 2024 tape against Wisconsin and Michigan proves the upside exists, and that is what a team is betting on with a pick in this range.
Overton is a powerful, movement-capable defensive lineman with intriguing physical tools and flashes of dominance, but his projection is clouded by his inconsistency in effort, pad level, and overall play-to-play reliability.
Some teams view Overton as a 3-technique in a four-man front, while others view him as a 5-technique in a three-man front- and some may even see him as a power-based edge in their scheme. With so many multiple front in today's NFL, that versatility is one of Overton's greatest assets. If he lands in a DL room with veteran leadership that will hold him accountable and he commits to the process, he's capable of developing into a Moro Ojomo-type versatile impact player in the NFL.
LT Overton is a captivating talent who blends the line between "edge rusher" and "defensive lineman". Though he still has plenty of additional upside left to unearth, Overton's pedigree as a former five-star, combined with his high-end flashes, will tantalize NFL evaluators. Overton never reached elite-level production in four years on the collegiate stage, and his pass-rush execution is still very raw.
However, Overton has the inbuilt versatility to be readily deployed on stunts and as a looper, and he's a force to be reckoned with at contact in the run game. At around 6'2 1/2" and 274 pounds, with near-34" arms and explosive vertical and lateral burst, Overton has all of the desired physical tools as a primary power producer. And on power rushes, he's flashed the agility and flexibility to realign his hips into contact, siphon lower-body power through urgent leg drive, and plow tackles off of their spot.
Overton's frame and physical profile is NFL-ready and applicable to hybrid schemes through alignment versatility, but the next step in his development will be to develop his rush arsenal and produce more at an independent level. Regardless, Overton's raw talent makes him an immediate rotational boon, and impact starter potential is present down the line.
