Iowa basketball has secured former Illinois State guard Ty'Reek Coleman from the transfer portal. Coleman averaged 10.0 points and has three years of NCAA eligibility remaining.
After a quiet start to the transfer portal window for Iowa basketball, the Hawkeyes finally made a splash with the commitment of former Illinois State transfer combo guard Ty'Reek Coleman.
As a freshman last season for the Redbirds, the 6-foot-2, 175-pounder from Aurora, Illinois, put up 10.0 points on 50.4% from the floor, 41.6% from 3-point range, and 70.2% from the free throw line, to go along with 2.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 0.9 steals over 22:42 minutes per contest across 35 games played.
This is a significant addition for Ben McCollum and the Hawkeyes as they landed one of their top transfer portal targets over competing programs such as Kansas State, Nebraska, Utah State, DePaul, and Oklahoma State.
After spending one season at Illinois State, Coleman will arrive at Iowa with three years of NCAA eligibility remaining.
While it's a bit of a reach at the moment to say Coleman can replicate the production of departing senior point guard Bennett Stirtz, the Hawkeyes should be in a fairly comfortable position moving forward if they can surround Coleman with an improved supporting cast.
