Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bowl first against Gujarat Titans in a massive top-of-the-table clash in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
With both teams firmly in the race for a top-two finish, tonight’s contest could prove decisive in shaping the playoff picture. Gujarat Titans arrive on the back of four straight wins, while SRH have surged up the standings after winning six of their last seven matches.
“We're going to have a bowl first. We've not played here before, so have a first look at it with the ball, and then whatever we need to chase, hopefully gets a little bit easier later on,” Cummins said at the toss.
The SRH skipper admitted that conditions and recent results at the venue played a small role in the decision but insisted instinct remained the biggest factor.
“A little bit. I mean, there's always different variables as well. I think there's been one or two blowout wins where they've bowled them out pretty cheaply in the first innings. Yeah, you look at it all. It's still a bit of a gut feel. No one can really read pitches perfectly,” he said.
Referring to GT’s dominant head-to-head record over SRH, Cummins joked: “Abhi (Abhishek Sharma) just mentioned that in the change room. I said perfect, nothing to lose now. All the pressure's all on them.” SRH have named an unchanged XI.
GT captain Shubman Gill said his side too wanted to bowl first but believed the pitch looked better for batting compared to previous matches at the venue.
“It’s all about being consistent with your thought process and execution. This is the last phase of the tournament and it’s important to bring your A-game,” Gill said, confirming Gujarat Titans are also unchanged.
