Everybody understands what Shohei Ohtani has done throughout his career, as there's a strong argument to be made that the right-handed pitching two-way star is arguably the greatest player to ever lace them up.
It's the reality of what he's done throughout his career, but that doesn't mean there aren't days in baseball when things just don't go as well as everybody expects them to.
That was the case for Ohtani against the Toronto Blue Jays in the final game of the set. Ohtani didn't throw the baseball poorly, but he didn't feel as well as he was hoping to.
âI just wasnât comfortable throwing,â he said. âWhen you rely on just your senses, there can be misalignment.â
Fortunately, while that first comment sounds like a possible arm problem, he later went on to add that his arm feels fine. The condition of his arm isn't anything to be worried about just yet, he just didn't feel great throwing the baseball.
âMy performance wasnât good. However, I was able to effectively handle my assigned innings and pitch count,â Ohtani added. âThe condition of my arm isnât bad. It just didn't feel right when I was throwing.â
It's not very uncommon for things like this to happen around Major League Baseball. There are going to be days when pitchers just don't have it going, and this was unfortunately one of them for Ohtani. Still, the all-time great was able to limit damage, only allowing four hits and no runs on the mound in that outing.
âIt was at the end of a road trip and closer to a day game, so in that sense, I think everyone had some fatigue,â Ohtani said. âI donât know if that was the reason, but I wasnât comfortable throwing.â
Shohei Ohtani mentioned that he wasn't comfortable throwing and felt there could be misalignment when relying on his senses.
Ohtani didn't throw poorly but reported feeling less than optimal during the game against the Blue Jays.
While Ohtani's comments raised some concerns, he did not indicate any serious issues, but fans may want to monitor his performance closely.
