âItâs those moments and those games we want to play, and hopefully we can make a good day out of it. I think we just need to do a good performance, work hard and play as a team. The quality is there, so we just need to show it.â Liverpool are going to need for the promise of that quality to come good. I, for one, remain optimistic if a bit more insistent on needing to see things improve sooner rather than later. I struggle to see how you can have the consistent returns and quality of play that Isak, for example, has amassed across two different leagues and suddenly fail to put it all together. Slightly differences in career history aside, I feel similarly about Florian Wirtz. It doesnât mean that the individual players canât take accountability for improving, but this is one of those situations where the questions around head coach Arne Slot do feel reasonable: how are you handed a team that seems ready built â that, on paper, looks improved upon last yearâs iteration â and fail to make anything of this season? I am, perhaps, more patient and willing to see out the rest of the year with Slot in charge than others are. That patience has always had a limit. And seeing the disastrous outcome mid-week feels very much like the last, regrettable straw. I canât predict what FSG will do with Slot, but I canât imagine him entering the next year in charge under any circumstance. And that is, perhaps, the most damning thing I can say about the whole affair.
