It's all over, Liverpool coach now set to leave

One Liverpool coach is now set to leave the club.

Even though he'll now remain like marmite at Anfield, Arne Slot will always be remembered for what he achieved. Guiding Liverpool to a Premier League title in his first season is no small feat.

While it’s fair to say he inherited a strong foundation from Jurgen Klopp, Slot still made important adjustments of his own that played a key role in delivering that success.

However, that early triumph does not shield him from criticism now. This season, the responsibility sits firmly with him, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the scale of Liverpool’s decline. Since lifting the title, the team has endured a run of form that ranks among the worst in the club’s recent history.

The numbers are stark. Slot has won fewer than half of his matches across 2025, and that trend has continued into 2026. Liverpool have managed just 13 victories in their last 26 games, a return that falls well below expectations for a club of their stature.

Even more concerning is their league form. After starting the campaign with five consecutive wins, momentum has completely evaporated. From the following 29 Premier League matches, Liverpool have won only 12.

For a club that demands consistency and excellence, those figures are simply not acceptable.

Whatever credit Slot earned for his debut season, the current trajectory raises serious concerns - and unless results improve quickly, it may be difficult for him to recover from this downturn.

Obviously, it's important to note that the blame doesn't just lie on Slot. This is a team sport and even at coaching level there are a myriad of people behind him.

One of the most established people behind Slot, is Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

He came in to replace Johnny Heitinga and considering he was a coach with senior managerial pedigree having worked at Feyenoord and Rangers, this seemed like an astute appointment.

Obviously, results on the pitch and Liverpool's genuinely poor defensive shape have not really reflected well on Van Bronckhorst, and that means he will be under scrutiny as well.
