Iva Jovic started her Madrid Open campaign on a high note, securing a straight-sets win over Magda Linette.
Outside of that result, the American has been in excellent form throughout 2026.
She’s also made an impact on the WTA Tour this season, reaching the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and making it to the semis in Charleston.

While speaking to The Tennis Channel, Jovic was asked which experienced players have supported her most since stepping onto the tour.
“I would say the Americans are really supportive. Jess [Pegula], Maddie [Keys], Coco [Gauff], I can’t even believe I’m calling Coco a veteran. She’s 21 years old, but I feel like she’s been doing it for so long,” said Jovic.
“They’re all really nice. We have good camaraderie there. I mean, even Magda [Linette] from today, I have a good bond with her.
Jovic has faced Pegula twice this season already but has yet to pick up a win against her. She also hasn’t come up against Gauff yet on tour.
Jovic comes into the Madrid Open as the 16th seed, which gives her a bit of breathing room early on, but the draw hasn’t done her any favours beyond that.
The American’s next opponent is Leylah Fernandez, marking their first meeting. Fernandez moved into the second round after beating Julia Grabher.
The Canadian is closing in on a return to the WTA top 20, helped by recent wins over Alexandra Eala and Zeynep Sonmez.
If Jovic manages to get past Fernandez, she’ll likely have to face Iga Swiatek in the fourth round. Swiatek has found some good form again under new coach Francisco Roig and remains a force on clay.
