Carlos Prates got the attention of the UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev, the rest of the division, and the UFC roster.
Prates faced former champion Jack Della Maddalena in the main event of Saturday’s UFC Perth card at RAC Arena in Australia. “The Nightmare” lived up to his nickname as he brutalized, battered, and destroyed Della Maddalena en route to a third-round TKO victory.
That’s now three-straight wins, and three consecutive stoppage victories for Prates after losing a decision to Ian Machado Garry in the main event of UFC Kansas City in April 2025, including a knockout of another former champ Leon Edwards in his prior outing at UFC 322 this past November.
After the win, Prates reiterated what he told MMA Fighting prior to the bout — he wants a title shot and feels he deserves it. Makhachev, rumored next title challenger Machado Garry, and other UFC pros reacted to Prates’ incredible performance.
