Jack’s Daily: Blackhawks Lottery Results; Kantserov News; Calder Finalists

More CHN: ICYMI — the Rockford IceHogs recently made a change to head coach Jared Nightingale’s staff, as assistant Rob Klinhammer was relieved of his duties after four seasons in the position.

In KHL news, Metallurg Magnitogorsk’s Sporting Director, Evgeny Biryukov, said in an interview with Championat that Blackhawks’ top prospect Roman Kantserov is “likely” signing with the Blackhawks this summer.

After Tuesday’s NHL Draft Lottery, Davidson was also asked about Kantserov’s status going into the offseason. He said he anticipates talking with Kantserov and his agent in the coming weeks to discuss coming over to Chicago for the 2026-27 season.

The Athletic: What a start to the John Chayka and Mats Sundin era in Toronto. The Maple Leafs won the 2026 NHL Draft Lottery on Tuesday, giving them the rights to the No. 1 overall pick this summer. It will be just the third time in franchise history that the Leafs own the top draft choice.

San Jose Hockey Now: Coming in at No. 2 behind the Maple Leafs were the San Jose Sharks, who vaulted up seven spots in the Draft Lottery results. The Sharks leapfrogged the Vancouver Canucks and will add another high-end prospect to their already-stacked pipelines. More help for Macklin Celebrini.

NHL.com: Shortly after the Vancouver Canucks were “awarded” with the No. 3 pick, Jim Rutherford announced that he plans to step down as the President of Hockey Operations following the 2026 NHL Draft.

Forever Blueshirts: The New York Rangers were just one number away from winning the 2026 NHL Draft Lottery on Tuesday. Not only did the Rangers not receive the top overall pick, but they fell all the way down to No. 5.

ESPN: Once the Lottery wrapped up, the stage was set for the NHL to announce the three finalists for the 2026 Calder Trophy, given annually to the league’s top rookie. Of course, New York Islanders defenseman Matthew Schaefer is the favorite to win the award.

Montreal Hockey Now: Along with Schaefer and Anaheim Ducks forward Beckett Sennecke, Montreal Canadiens forward Ivan Demidov was the third finalist announced for the 2026 Calder.

Colorado Hockey Now: With a 5-2 win over the Minnesota Wild in Game 2 on Tuesday, the Colorado Avalanche remain undefeated in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and hold a 2-0 series lead in Round 2. Nathan MacKinnon, Martin Necas, and Gabriel Landeskog each tallied two points in the victory.

More ESPN: On the other end of the outcome, the Wild are still searching for answers against the Presidents’ Trophy winners. After Jesper Wallstedt allowed nine goals in Game 1, head coach John Hynes sat him in favor of veteran Filip Gustavsson on Tuesday. That decision didn’t make much of a difference, as the Wild were still heavily outplayed by the NHL’s top team from the regular season.

Daily Faceoff: With the Edmonton Oilers knocked out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Darren Dreger reported that defensemen Evan Bouchard and Darnell Nurse are expected to join Team Canada for the 2026 IIHF World Championships in Switzerland. Dreger also mentioned that 2026 projected top overall pick, Gavin McKenna, will not play for Canada in the tournament.
