The Bemidji High School track and field team collected 12 first place finishes at a Detroit Lakes meet Thursday.
For the boys, Taylen Schermerhorn got the Jacks' first win in the 200-meter (23.64), with Henry McCrady coming in third at 24.19. In the 400-meter, BHS swept the top three. Caleb Knott claimed first (51.48) with Schermerhorn (51.65) and Kyle Millar (53.62) coming behind in second and third, respectively.
William Ames (4:42.66) and Tanner Johnson (4:47.36) finished 1-2 in the 1600-meter, with Ames getting the victory. Ryland Olson also finished first in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 20.11 seconds. Austin Heim finished right behind in third (21.34).
The Jacks got three relay wins. In the 4x200 relay, Noah Wilson, Vinny Nelson, Rhys Sneide and Schermerhorn finished in 1:34.13, good for first. Johnson, Ames, Blake Dewitt and Mac Buchan picked up a victory in the 4x400 relay, finishing in 3:44.11.
BHS had other good finishes on the track. In the 800-meter, Dewitt finished in third in 2:09.11, while Jack Galloway finished third in the 3200-meter (11:53.83).
In the field, Austin Heim got Bemidji's best finish in the pole vault, placing second (11' 0"). Bondy also finished second in the long jump (20' 5"), with McCrady right behind in third (19' 11.5"). In the triple jump, Sneide finished third (39' 9.5").
For the girls, the Jacks picked up wins. Naomi Johnson got things started in the 200-meter, placing first with a time of 27.14. Chloe Derby picked up a victory in the 1600-meter (5:34.59), with Abigail Olson behind in third (5:55.26).
Claire Story finished first in the 3200-meter with a time of 12:21.90, while Olson placed second (12:34.31). In the 300-meter hurdles, Finley Zothman finished first in 52.18.
The Jacks also picked up two relay wins. In the 4x400 relay, Derby, Mya Thompson, Hannah Quinn, Alivia Thompson finished in 4:16.81 for the victory. Lillian Millar, Ivy Blumenshein, Adeline Runningen and Hannah Quinn also won in the 4x800 relay (11:47.19).
Other top finishes include Johnson's second place finish in the 100-meter (13.12), along with a second place finish from Alivia Thompson in the 400-meter (1:03.25). In the 100-meter hurdles, Zothman finished in 17.82, good for second. She also finished third in the triple jump (31' 6.75").
The Lumberjacks won multiple events including the 200-meter, 400-meter, 1600-meter, and 110-meter hurdles, along with three relay races.
Taylen Schermerhorn, Caleb Knott, and William Ames were among the standout athletes, securing first place in their respective events.
