Jackson Koivun continued his dominance of college golf Friday, April 24, as the Auburn golfer won his third individual SEC championship in three seasons, leading Auburn men's golf en route to a stroke play title at the SEC championship in St. Simons Island, Georgia.
Koivun's SEC three-peat was just the second in the conference's history. He joined LSU golfer BR McLendon with the feat, which hadn't been achieved since McLendon did so between 1965 and 1967.
âIt feels great any time you can come out here and win an SEC championship, itâs a huge honor,â Koivun said in a release. âTo be able to do it three times in a row, itâs good to put my name down in the history books.â
Koivun shot a 7-under 63 on Friday to finish the three-round event at 19-under-par. He led the field by seven strokes at individual play's close. It was Koivun's sixth win in eight events this season.
As a team, Auburn finished six strokes ahead of runner-up Florida for a third consecutive stroke play title in the SEC championships. It gives the Tigers the top overall seed in the event's match play quarterfinals, which begin Saturday, April 25.
At 39-under-par, Auburn broke its own stroke play record at the SEC championship, with a finish that was one stroke better than last season's record-setting performance.
