Most teams don't send their starters onto the field much during preseason. Jacksonville was an exception to this in 2025, but the entire team had also been completely revamped, with existing veterans having to learn a new scheme on both sides of the ball.
Letting the starters take some preseason snaps gave them a little more time to learn and adjust before the regular season started. Still, the overall playing time from starters was minimal. It is likely that fans won't see much of them in 2026 during the preseason, as this scenario no longer applies.

The bigger indication fans can get from preseason games is what the depth chart could ultimately look like on the final roster, and which players could fight their way to a spot on it with strong performances.
Many of the rookies, in particular, like Nate Boerkircher, Emmanuel Pregnon, and Tanner Koziol, have already been gaining hype from analysts after strong showings at rookie minicamp. Continuing to perform well could earn all three a starting spot on Week 1, with Pregnon and Koziol in particular the ones to keep an eye on.
What the running back rotation looks like and how playing time shakes out at defensive end behind Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker will be worth monitoring as well. Competition at linebacker with Devin Lloyd and for the third safety role are two other potential competitions to take place this summer.
