Jameson Williams sues NCAA, Big Ten and SEC over NIL compensation

Former Alabama and Ohio State football wide receiver Jameson Williams is suing the NCAA, Big Ten and SEC for Name, Image and Likeness compensation.

According to The California Post, the now-Detroit Lions wide receiver is seeking lost money for NIL compensation and an injunction stopping the three parties from using his NIL "for financial or any similar gain or reason without his consent and compensation."

The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles County on Monday.

"To date, Williams has received no fair compensation from Defendants for the full commercial value of his name, image, and likeness," Williams' lawsuit reads, according to The Post. "Defendants continuously financially benefit from Jameson Williams’ name, image and likeness rights, while also doing so without providing him with just compensation."

According to The Post, Williams is also seeking compensation for "the social media earnings" he missed out on from the three parties' "unlawful conduct" and also a share of the "game telecast group licensing revenue."

Williams, a former four-star recruit out of high school by 247Sports Composite rankings, started his college career in the Big Ten at . In his two seasons with the Buckeyes, Williams finished with 15 receptions for 266 yards and three touchdowns, which included a 45-yard touchdown reception in the 2021 CFP Sugar Bowl quarterfinal vs. Clemson.
