When the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins faced off on Tuesday night, one moment from the contest got a lot of buzz on social media.
In the fifth inning, Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran grounded out to second base. The out in itself didn't cause a stir, but afterward, he was seen flipping the middle finger at a Twins fan in the stands.
Unsurprisingly, this got people talking and wondering what led to the moment. After the game, Duran revealed that the fan in the stands told him to "kill himself," as transcribed by Christopher Smith of MassLive.com.
“Somebody just told me to kill myself. I’m used to it at this point. I mean, (expletive) happens," Duran said. "I mean, I’m gonna flip somebody off if they say something to me. But it is what it is. I shouldn’t react like that. But that kind of stuff is still kind of triggering. So it happens. ... Honestly, it’s my fault for talking about my mental health because I kind of brought in the haters. So it’s something I’ve got to get used to.”
Duran has been vocal about mental health struggles and a past suicide attempt.
Baseball is baseball. It doesn't make the world spin. It's a kid's game that people around the world are fortunate to see the best in the world play on a nightly basis. There's simply no reason to say something like what the Twins fan said to Duran, on Tuesday night. There's no room in the game for chatter like that.

The specific reason for Jarren Duran's reaction to the Twins fan has not been disclosed, but it occurred after a play where he was out.
The incident has generated significant buzz on social media, with many users discussing and sharing the moment.
