Javier Mascherano has resigned as coach of Inter Miami CF for personal reasons, leaving Lionel Messi without a coach. He expressed gratitude to fans and the organization in his statement.

The Major League Soccer club announced on Tuesday, April 14 that coach Javier Mascherano informed team officials he is stepping down from his position for "personal reasons." He did not elaborate in a statement thanking fans and the organization.
"I will always carry with me the memory of our first star, and wherever I am, I will continue to wish the club all the best moving forward," Mascherano said. "I have no doubt that the club will continue to achieve success in the future."

Inter Miami won MLS Cup for the first time in Mascherano's lone full season as coach, lifting the trophy in 2025.
The Herons are off to a more difficult start in 2026, going 3W-3D-1L in league play and losing to Nashville SC in the Concacaf Champions Cup.
Inter Miami said Guillermo Hoyos will take over as the team's interim coach with three matches on the schedule over the next 10 days.
“Javier will forever be part of this club’s history and will always hold a special place in the Inter Miami CF family," Inter Miami owner Jorge Mas said in a statement. "Not only for being a key part of unforgettable achievements, such as winning the MLS Cup and the team’s historic performance at the Club World Cup, but also for the example he set through his dedication and daily work leading the team.
"We respect his decision and are deeply grateful for everything he contributed, wishing him nothing but the very best in his professional and personal future."
