The Ravens' secondary continues to take shape as new safety Jaylinn Hawkins settles into a room already built on versatility, communication, and competition. Hawkins recently joined the Up & Adams Show, where he spoke about stepping into a defensive group that includes Kyle Hamilton and Malaki Starks, and how he views his role as he integrates into the mix.
“I’m just looking forward to just all those guys, Kyle, Malaki, everybody in room. I'm just looking forward to just coming in there. Um, you know, being a vessel, you know, as well as um, you know, giving out whatever, giving out game, you know, learning from him and him learning from me. Like obviously I said like he the best in the game. Dude does it all like extremely is a baller. get the ball, make plays, sure tackler all over the field. So, I'm just looking to come in and compliment and bring what I, you know what I'm saying, do to the table and we can compliment each other, all of us, and um be the try to be the best in the league really.”
He also emphasized that the group's strength will come from how different skill sets are layered and maximized within the defensive structure.
“I feel like it helps out a lot because you know as a player like everybody has their roles and you can play to your strengths you know like if somebody does something real well and I do something real well and we compliment each other real well then it works out you know it's about positioning putting everybody putting the puzzle together you know and so if we compliment each other in that way then you know like I said you know looking forward to going there new damage. But uh like I said, he a baller though. Do this do this make plays and I'm excited to go out there and just be turned with him and everybody and just you know you know go out there and just win. That's it. It's all about winning.”
For Hawkins, the early focus is less about defining roles and more about building chemistry within a group that expects to rotate responsibilities and lean into matchup advantages throughout the season. If that comes together the way he envisions, the Ravens believe the back end can become one of the more adaptable units in the league.
