Jayson Tatum shared how becoming a father during his rookie season with the Boston Celtics transformed his perspective on life. He described the unexpected arrival of his son, Deuce, as a pivotal moment that redefined his priorities.
Life comes at you fast, and even the stars of the NBA are not immune for how major life events can shift one's point of view on even the most important things to us. Star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum found that truth out for himself in the first weeks of his rookie season, an unexpected addition to his family changing how a younger version of himself saw his future.
In a recent interview with TODAY's "Glass Half Full" show host Craig Melvin, the St. Louis native told the story of how Deuce Tatum reconfigured his life in the best way. "Having two kids — I was 19 when Deuce was born, and that was the best thing that could have ever happened to me," said Tatum.
"It wasn’t planned, and it was tough because I was afraid," he continued. "I was just leaving Duke. I was entering my new career. I was moving to Boston, starting my new life, and now I was about to be a father."
Becoming a father shifted Jayson Tatum's priorities and perspective on life, making him more focused on his family.
Tatum mentioned that Deuce was born just 12 games into his NBA career, and the moment he held him changed his outlook on life.
Jayson Tatum's son is nicknamed Deuce, which is short for Jayson Tatum Jr.
