Jeremiyah Love could end 7-year running back drought at NFL Draft

It seems that some NFL franchises are suffering from a case of Jeremiyah Love fever as the draft approaches this week.

Though Fernando Mendoza is still set to be taken with the top overall pick by the Raiders, NFL insider Adam Schefter reports that there is a growing belief among many that Love is the best overall player available in the upcoming draft class. And now, he could do something no running back has done in the draft in the past seven years – hear his name called among the top five overall picks.

Schefter cited "growing chatter" across the NFL that Love is in play to go as high as the No. 3 overall pick in this year's draft, which belongs to the Arizona Cardinals. And while reports also suggest the Cardinals are looking to trade down for extra picks, if they don't manage to pull off such a move, it's looking more likely they might gamble on Love. It would be the first time since Saquon Barkley's selection in the 2018 draft that a running back went in the top five selections.

And Love's original projected landing spot, which most people felt was most likely No. 7 to the Commanders, is now widely viewed as his floor. It appears Love, who racked up 1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground this past season at Notre Dame en route to All-American honors and the Doak Walker Award, is in a great position ahead of the draft.
