Jermod McCoy CB Knee Injury Update for Detroit Lions NFL Draft

Jermod McCoy has been increasingly linked to the Detroit Lions lately as a possible draft candidate. He is viewed a a 1st-round talent but has some medical red flags due to his ACL recovery.

A recent report by Tony Pauline at Essentially Sports adds more concerning details. Here is an excerpt...

"Over the past two days, multiple sources have told me that several teams have red-flagged the combine medicals of Tennessee defensive back Jermod McCoy... I’m told that red flags were raised after teams deemed McCoy’s knee to be a degenerative condition." - Tony Pauline

A degenerative knee condition would be of major concern for any team. I added updated analysis to my medical report on Jermod McCoy. Here is an excerpt:

This is further evidence of concern that there may be more than just a straightforward ACL with McCoy. As I had written earlier, there is a possibility of significant articular cartilage damage found during surgery that would lead to concern for a degenerative knee. If this is indeed the case, it should be a major concern for teams both in the short-term as he has no live game action (proof of recovery) since the injury, and long-term for his career longevity. - Jimmy Liao MD

While the Lions have a 6/10 need at the CB position based on my Defensive Positional Need Rankings, the concerns surrounding McCoy may take him off the Lions' board in the early rounds.
